It&#8217;s been a good year, <a href=\"http:\/\/cialiscouponsale.net\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none;color:#676c6c\">this site<\/a>  mostly spend with Square, my family &amp; my side projects. Mike Bostock makes some of New York Times many great inforgraphics. In this essay he takes you through some of his thinking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instapaper.com\/read\/462039246\">How to Think<\/a><br \/>\nMy\u00a0oldest son started Kindergarten this year at Success Academy. Part of their curriculum\u00a0is learning chess. This great essay explains why\u00a0thats not a bad idea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@RickWebb\/the-economics-of-star-trek-29bab88d50\">The Economics of StarTrek &#8211; The Proto-Post Scarcity Society<\/a><br \/>\nI read a lot about technology and it&#8217;s impacts on society. I think 2014 will known as\u00a0the year before the year where unconditional basic income became a wider accepted solution to the rise of the robots. This essay takes a constructive approach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/7050\/bootstrapping-a-decentralized-autonomous-corporation-part-i\/\">Bootstrapping A Decentralized Autonomous Corporation<\/a><br \/>\nWith bitcoin it&#8217;s possible to create an organisation build on smart contracts and potentially without a human owner.<\/p>\n<h6>Great books I read<\/h6>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.com\/book\/216369\/creativity-inc-by-ed-catmull-and-amy-wallace\">Creativity Inc<br \/>\n<\/a>I am normally not a big fan of books about creativity. This book written by Ed Catmull is a welcome exception. Probably one of the best books I have read on the subject.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelightsinthetunnel.com\/\">Light in the end of the tunnel \u2013 Automation, Accelerating Technology and the Economy of the Future<\/a><br \/>\nI have been studying the subject of technology and it&#8217;s tendency to create structural unemployment. Martin Ford lays out a very convincing case for why we should worry about our future.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/zerotoonebook.com\/\">Zero to One &#8211; Notes on Startups &amp; How to Build The Future.<\/a><br \/>\n&#8220;What important truth about the world do almost no-one agree with you on?&#8221; With this contrarian question Peter Thiel\u00a0kicks of his very interesting book. It has some great perspectives but also some very sloppy thinking. If you are lukewarm about that kind of review you can just read the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blakemasters.com\/peter-thiels-cs183-startup\">lecture notes<\/a> the book is was based on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Origin-Consciousness-Breakdown-Bicameral-Mind\/dp\/0618057072\">The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind<\/a><br \/>\nThe Origin of Consciousness\u00a0by\u00a0Julian Jaynes is one of those books that will forever change your view of the world. It&#8217;s a challenging read but\u00a0whether it&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bicameralism_%28psychology%29\">theory<\/a> holds up or not it&#8217;s going to make for one hell of ride.<\/p>\n<h6>Interesting People I Discovered<\/h6>\n<p><strong>Thinkers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MFordFuture\">Martin Ford<\/a><br \/>\nThe author of &#8220;The Lights In The Tunnel&#8221; a great book about automation and it&#8217;s impact on society.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tylercowen\">Tyler Cowen<\/a><br \/>\nOne of the few economists who seem to be taking technology progress seriously. Written several books amongst others. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Average-Is-Over-Powering-Stagnation\/dp\/0525953736\/ref=as_li_tf_il?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=marginalrevol-20&amp;linkCode=as2\">Average Is Over<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ProfileNameTruncated-link u-textInheritColor js-nav js-action-profile-name\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michaelbhaskar\" data-aria-label-part=\"\">Michael Bhaskar<\/a><br \/>\nI found out about Michael Bashkar when I heard a lecture he did\u00a0about the future of publishing. He is also running a very extensive\u00a0list of <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1vcPBUincOjwgIQBjq_qhMPb9QYitgeyl6gQUM1hWQUw\/edit\">digital publishing startups<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Artists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pokestuff\">Jonathan Ball<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/chaoticatmospheres.com\/\">Chaotic Atmosphere<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dribbble.com\/Belinco\">Ariel Belinco<\/a>,<\/p>\n<h6>Interesting graphs I discovered<\/h6>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/destroying.jobs_.chart1x910_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/destroying.jobs_.chart1x910_0.jpg\">Decoupling Productivity and Employment<\/a><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/destroying.jobs_.chart1x910_0.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>Producitivy and Employment are increasingly decoupled. This means that the average household income is stagnant and structural unemployment is increasing while corporate profits (due to higher productivity) is increasing.<\/p>\n<p>This is going to be the single most important discussion the coming decade. What to do with technology.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/plot.ly\/~BethS\/8\/job-growth-by-decade-in-the-united-states\/\">Job Growth by Decade in the US<br \/>\n<\/a>Job growth per decade has been dropping since 2nd world war. I am still trying to process what this means but it does show that despite an increase in population and advanced technology it does not add more jobs. Going to launch it in January. Watch this site for further updates\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghostnoteapp.com\">www.ghostnoteapp.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/000fff.org\/WeekendReader\/index-list.html\">Hula Books<\/a><br \/>\nBeen wanting to get into digital publishing for a while. Hula Books allow you to create your own book club or find people who want to study the same book as you and discuss it&#8217;s content.
